Time lapse movie of Sunset at Daiba

I know young people go to Daiba. I know Daiba is famous place for tourists. Why do I go to Daiba even I'm not a tourist and am not so young any more? I go there because the sunset over the bridge is quite nice!

Time lapse movie by Olympus OM-D E-M5 + Lumix G 20mm F1.7

It is time lapse movie of sunset at Daiba. It was taken with Olympus OM-D E-M5 and Lumix G 20mm F1.7. I used iAuto mode for this. Those movie and pictures were taken on July 2015.

Followings are pictures taken at the same time;

It shows many different colors and faces in such a short period. It is worth visiting.

Gaomei wetland

"Gaomei wetland" Sunset time lapse movie with Olympus OM-D E-M5 and 12-40mm f2.8 Pro

I go Taiwan so often because my wife is Taiwanese. Another reason is flight fare to Taiwan is very cheap. The cheapest one is only JPY15,000 for round-trip from Tokyo while Tokyo to Osaka by Shinkansen is JPY15,000 for one-way. So I go Taiwan very often.

It is timelapse movie of Gaomei wetland (高美湿地) in Taichung. Some say it is "Salar de Uyuni" in Taiwan. For me, it is too much saying but still Gaomei is beautiful and worth visiting.

Photos are taken by Olympus E-M5 with 12-40 Pro lens using SCN mode.
The movie is shaking a lot because it is taken on wooden road and it is unstable. It shook when people passed by.

To check magic hour, I used Sun Seeker previously. Recently I changed my phone to Android. Now I'm using Golden Hour.

A Night in Koh Madsum

"Koh Madsum" Sunset and Starry sky time lapse movie with Olympus OM-D E-M5 and 12-40mm f2.8 Pro

It is timelapse movie of dawn and stars in Koh Madsum. Koh Madsum is south from Koh Samui and it takes 20 minutes from the pier at Samui to get there. Very nice place as it is completely isolated.

Those pictures were taken by Olympus OM-D E-M5 with 12-40mm pro lens. I also used automatic shutter release device that I bought at amazon.

Conditions for each situations are;

Dawn)
0:00 to 0:40
SCN mode
Force MF

Starry sky 1)
0:40 to 1:15
Manual mode
ISO 3200 / f2.8 / SS 8 sec / Shutter interval 12 sec
Manual Focus

Starry sky 2)
1:15 to last
Manual mode
ISO 3200 / f2.8 / SS 5 sec / Shutter interval 8 sec
Manual Focus

Taking a sunset continuously is quit difficult as the condition gradually changes. So I use SCN Landscape or iAuto mode to follow these changes. One important thing is that you'd better use Force MF mode. Force MF function comes with Olympus Pro lens. It is very nice function for me. Originally in SCN Landscape or iAuto mode, you cannot use MF but you can use MF with Pro lens! With AF, the camera lose focus point  and it takes so long time to focus. It could be more than shutter interval. Therefore you should use MF for taking sunset time lapse.

I usually use Aperture for development, Time Lapse Assembler for making timelapse movie and iMovie for editing movie.

Samui Island Time Lapse Movie

ISO 3200; f/2.8; 5.0s
Interval 8sec

1:05 to last
Banyan Tree Samui hotel beach

I usually use "SHOOT" remote controller to release shutter. It is RM-UC1 compatible. See the picture for your reference.

Corals at the private beach of Banyan Tree Samui by Olympus STYLUS TG-3 Tough

My first Olympus camera is TG-3 Tough. I bought it because my friends recommended it. It is very tough as it has not only waterproof and shock protection but also macro function. I used to go mountain to climb. I asked good camera for climbing mountain to my friends. Their answer was TG-3.

Corals at the private beach of Banyan Tree Samui by Olympus STYLUS TG-3 Tough

Following pictures were taken by Olympus STYLUS TG-3 Tough. I used macro mode for those corals.

I am satisfied with TG-3 basically except for its support format. Stupidly TG-3 doesn’t support RAW file format. I have to take JPEG picture for those macro photos. One more thing what I am not satisfied with is "Depth of field”. Because a depth of field is very limited, a part of a object is blur in many cases. To overcome this, new versions of Tough such as TG-4 or TG-5 support Focus Stacking function. It is very nice as it takes pictures by changing focus point gradually and compose them to support deeper field. Please see the Olympus page for further information.
